Happy Anniversary Uhde!

Uhde's 100th anniversary is on April 6, 2021. Join us in celebrating a century of Uhde.

Uhde's Story in Thailand

Uhde established itself in Thailand as early as the 1970s, shortly after the oil crisis, and contributed to the rapid growth of the Thai petrochemical sector. It was the construction of the first low-density polyethylene plant for Thai Petrochemical Industry Public Company Limited (TPI) in 1980 that set the ball rolling.

The continuing business relationship with TPI resulted in the establishment of Uhde Thailand Ltd. in Bangkok in 1990, with TPI as a shareholder. Uhde Thailand – like other globally operating subsidiaries – was able to benefit from the experience and know-how of the German parent company. This made it possible to offer Uhdeʼs complete portfolio with its full array of engineering services not only on the Thai market but also on the entire Southeast Asian market.

In the 1990s, Uhde built many large-scale plants in Thailand, including a number of polymer plants, for example for polyethylene, polypropylene and polystyrene, as well as plants for nitric acid/ammonium nitrate, refinery plants and aromatics plants – for TPI, PTT, SCG and other world-class multinational plant owners.

In 2001, a small branch office with 12 employees opened in Map Ta Phut in order to be more customer-responsive and offer construction-site-related services. There are now more than 250 people working at this office, which has become the center of all operations in Thailand.

In 2015, tkIS Thailand established its center of competence for oleo and specialty chemicals as the result of an acquisition. The technology portfolio that is evolving at this center is marketed and sold worldwide – significant projects to date include Oxiteno (USA) and MOL (Europe).

In keeping with the spirit of the companyʼs founder Friedrich Uhde, there is no end to innovation and development processes at tkIS Thailand: In 2019, the Thai organization became a center of competence for modular design and engineering, contributing its expertise in particular to the fast-growing business fields of green ammonia and green hydrogen.

The Giving Program (online CSR)

During our 100th anniversary between 23 June to 15 July 2021, we’re inviting our employees, customers and business partners to join us in our Giving Program that will help people in need.

For over 100 years Uhde has been at the forefront of technology, and here in Thailand we have made a significant contribution to the establishment of the Petrochemical industry. But we know the tide is changing and there is a transition to more sustainable solutions. Therefore, we have launched our new Purpose statement “We create a Livable Planet” with the transition to greener and more sustainable solutions.

With our purpose, we would like to ask you the QUESTION.
