Pugmill granulation

Pugmill granulation

thyssenkrupp Industrial Solutions’ state-of-the-art technology for ammonium nitrate and CAN granulation plants. Pugmill granulation is a proprietary Uhde process, designed for maximum reliability and safety.

The heart of Uhde's proprietary pugmill granulation process is a pugmill granulator – a horizontal mixing and agglomeration device based on a U-type trough with dual shafts and paddles. Due to the speed of the paddles, the granules are fluidized in the upper part of the granulator. The recycle material and the AN melt from the ammonium nitrate neutralization plant are combined to form granules by agglomeration and layering.

thyssenkrupp Industrial Solutions offers licensed technology with projects ranging from basic engineering to execution on an EPC lump sum basis. Today, thyssenkrupp Industrial Solutions ranks among the world's leading process plant licensors for AN/CAN granulation technology.

The Uhde pugmill granulation process is known for:

  • high capacity: installed single line capacity of up to 1,800 mtpd
  • low air and steam requirements by re-use of cooling air
  • cost-effectiveness
  • stability: recycle quantity compensates fluctuations
  • low emissions: wet scrubbing system meets environmental regulations and BAT levels
