First polish MEKO® A-100 corvette christened
thyssenkrupp Marine Systems and Polish shipyard Stocznia Marynarki Wojennej celebrate christening of first MEKO® A-100 corvette
thyssenkrupp Marine Systems GmbH congratulates the new management and committed team of Stocznia Marynarki Wojennej S.A. for the successful completion of the construction of ORP Ślązak, the first modern patrol vessel in Poland based on MEKO® A-100 design by thyssenkrupp Marine Systems. ORP Ślązak has been christened on July 2, 2015 in Gdynia at the site of Stocznia Marynarki Wojennej. The vessel is scheduled to be handed over to the Polish Navy at the end of 2016.
After christening and launching of the ship, thyssenkrupp Marine Systems is expecting a soon and successful entering to service. The unit will be a core asset of the Polish Armed Forces in their strong, modernized Polish Navy. MEKO® Design is a cornerstone that will help protect Poland and build security in the Baltic region based on proven technology. The Polish Navy thereby joins the international user community of MEKO® user Navies to whom thyssenkrupp Marine Systems has delivered more than 140 vessels of different classes and according to customer requirements until today.
The Blohm+Voss MEKO® Design is a scalable warship design that will enable Poland to realize different levels of operational ambition using the same platform. This leads to a very efficient building process using the experience already gathered in the Stocznia Marynarki Wojennej and high operational availability for the Polish Armed Forces.
